DICTIONARY OF RELIGIONS OF EURASIA

DICTIONARY OF RELIGIONS OF EURASIA

Through the study of traditions, practices and myths of Europe and Asia, Eliade was able to become aware of the basic unity of the entire continent

The volume embraces the religious themes that developed in ancient Europe, that reality that from the most remote phases of prehistory reaches up to Christianization. Through the study of the traditions of Europe and Asia, practices and myths, Eliade was able to become aware of the basic unity of the entire continent, ’capturing the profound unity that exists between the indigenous culture of India, Balkan culture and farmer culture of Western Europe”.

The dictionary geographically covers the entire European continent with the exclusion of the classical world (the religions of ancient Greece and Rome) and, in light of the now undoubted continuity that unites Europe with the territories of the Asian continent, widens its gaze to religious world of Eurasia. If the northern borders of this immense territory are Siberia and the Arctic regions, the southern ones correspond with the ancient Silk Road, historically one of the realities that have contributed the most to the realization of the cultural unity that we call Eurasia.
