Saint Goose’s Tour

From one of the most praised Italian literary authors, a major novel and strong award contender for 2019. Inspired by those outlaw women and highwaywomen who crossed the European battlefields in the 17th century, pretending to be men to be accepted.

Upper Milan area, 1652. The popular uprising is led by Bonaventura Mangiaterra, a charming chief who follows a libertarian version of the Old and the New Testament,  rebelling against the Church and the Royalty in the name of the Gospel. In the fall of the same year, the mightily Royalty unleash a spy across the moors who, looking for the way to storm the peasants, gets information about Bonaventura Mangiaterra and all the shadows around him. At the end of October, a militia gathered by Royalty defeats the rebels on the battlefield. Only then, it turned out that Bonaventura Mangiaterra was a female. Twenty years later, Pùlvara, an adventurous drifter, roams the moors, driven by a dream that ordered her to hit the road. Retracing the steps of the rioters and their chief, she recalls her youth’s emotion, the riot’s reasons and failures. In the magical world of “the enchanted moors”, she meets the wolf – a wood spirit or the embodiment of Bonaventura Mangiaterra – that will guide her in the place where the remains of the great chief lie.
