Lo scheletro nel pozzo
Alice passa tutte le estati nella vecchia masseria pugliese dei nonni e ogni anno si annoia tantissimo. Quest’anno no: il vicino di casa, scavando un pozzo tra i suoi ulivi, ha trovato un antico scheletro preistorico. Vorrebbe distruggerlo senza dire niente, ma il suo bracciante scatta una foto e la condivide sui social. In tantissimi si precipitano a curiosare, tra cui tre ragazzini dell’età di Alice. Insieme, i ragazzi fanno da guide a un antropologo americano arrivato dopo la notizia: lo portano ai dolmen della Vecchia Striara, così chiamati in onore di un’antica leggenda locale… Ma i dolmen sono imbrattati di sangue! Si dice che lo scheletro del pozzo sia quello della vecchia strega e che ora si vendicherà. Tra sospetti e strani avvenimenti, i ragazzini sveleranno il vero responsabile.

Chiara Valentina Segré è nata a Milano nel 1982, dove vive con il compagno e i tre figli. È biologa, divulgatrice scientifica e responsabile della supervisione scientifica alla Fondazione Umberto Veronesi. Ha pubblicato circa trenta libri tra albi illustrati e romanzi per bambini e ragazzi, tra cui Oscar il gatto custode (Camelozampa), vincitore del Premio Giacomo Giulitto come miglior libro 6-10 anni, Lola e io (Camelozampa), selezionato per la IBBY 2015 e Piccolo mago (VerbaVolant edizioni).
The Skeleton of the Well
Alice spends every summer at her grandparents’ old farmhouse in Puglia, and every year she gets terribly bored. Not this year, though: her neighbour, digging a well among his olive trees, has found an ancient prehistoric skeleton. He wants to destroy it without saying anything, but his farmhand takes a photo and shares it on social media. Lots of people rush to take a look, including three kids of Alice’s age. Together the friends act as guides for an American anthropologist who arrives after hearing the news: they take him to the dolmens of Vecchia Striara, named after an ancient local legend… But the dolmens are smeared with blood! It is said that the skeleton in the well belongs to the old witch and now she will take her revenge. Amidst suspicions and strange events, the kids will reveal who is really responsible.

Chiara Valentina Segré was born in Milan in 1982. She lives there with her partner and three children. She is a biologist, science communicator and head of scientific supervision at the Umberto Veronesi Foundation. She has published around thirty books, including illustrated books and novels for children and young adults, among which Oscar il gatto custode (Camelozampa), winner of the Giacomo Giulitto Prize for best book for 6-10 year olds, Lola e io (Camelozampa), selected for IBBY 2015, and Piccolo mago (VerbaVolant edizioni).
