Come sorelle racconta un legame spezzato, una colpa, un rimorso che resiste al tempo. È la storia di una vita segnata dall’assenza, ma anche della tenacia di chi resta e accetta di attraversare il dolore. Anni Trenta. In un piccolo borgo della provincia veronese, Teresa ed Ester crescono come sorelle. Condividono tutto: la casa, i giochi, i rituali alle Coste, dove affidano segreti e preghiere alla Madonna nera avvolgendoli in foglie di dente di leone. Un amore totale, scandito al ritmo duro e semplice della vita contadina. Finché per Ester si schiude la prospettiva di un futuro migliore, lontano dal borgo e da Teresa. È allora che il distacco scava un vuoto, e l’affetto diventa rancore.

Nata a Soave, in provincia di Verona, Elisa Bellero si è laureata in Lettere classiche con un percorso di studi sul teatro greco e lavora nell’ambito della comunicazione e del marketing. Il racconto La strega è stato pubblicato sulla rivista Leggendaria. La parrucca di famiglia ha vinto la decima edizione del Premio letterario Zeno, nella sezione racconti brevi. Come sorelle è il suo primo romanzo.

Come sorelle tells the story of a broken bond, a guilt, a remorse that withstands time. It is the story of a life marked by absence, but also of the tenacity of those who stay and accept to withstand the pain.
The 1930s. In a small village in the province of Verona, Teresa and Ester grow up like sisters. They share everything: their home, games, the rituals at Le Coste, where they entrust secrets and prayers to the Black Madonna by wrapping them in dandelion leaves. A total love, punctuated by the harsh and simple rhythm of peasant life. Until the prospect of a better future opens up for Ester, far from the village and from Teresa. It is then that the separation tears open a void, and affection turns into resentment.

Born in Soave, in the province of Verona, Elisa Bellero graduated in Classical Literature with a curriculum focused on Greek theater, and works in the field of communication and marketing. Her short story La strega was published in the magazine Leggendaria. La parrucca di famiglia won the tenth edition of the Zeno Literary Prize in the short story section. Come sorelle is her first novel.

Nacida en Soave, en la provincia de Verona, Elisa Bellero se licenció en Literatura Clásica con un curso de teatro griego y trabaja en el ámbito de la comunicación y el marketing. El relato La bruja fue publicado en la revista Leggendaria. La peluca de familia ganó la décima edición del Premio Literario Zeno, en la sección de relatos cortos. Como hermanas es su primera novela.

In un primo momento la casa editrice si concentra sulla letteratura dei paesi dell’Est, facendo conoscere al pubblico italiano autori come Milan Kundera, Bohumil Hrabal, Christa Wolf e la premio Nobel Svetlana Aleksievič. Successivamente si volge a Ovest, alla narrativa americana, pubblicando, tra gli altri, Thomas Pynchon, Alice Munro e Joyce Carol Oates, per poi esplorare mondi letterari meno conosciuti, dai Caraibi all’Africa. Una particolare attenzione è dedicata anche alla letteratura francese, con autori come Muriel Barbery, Mathias Enard ed Éric Vuillard, e all’area mediterranea, dove, con Jean-Claude Izzo e Massimo Carlotto, Edizioni e/o contribuisce a lanciare in Italia il genere del “noir mediterraneo”. La casa editrice ha sempre riservato un’attenzione speciale alle scrittrici, da Christa Wolf e Lia Levi fino a Elena Ferrante, con il suo successo mondiale senza precedenti. Negli ultimi anni ha esplorato inoltre le letterature dal Medio Oriente al Giappone e ampliato i propri orizzonti alla narrativa fantastica e di genere, cui dal 2024 è dedicato il nuovo imprint Ne/oN Libri.

In its early years, Edizioni e/o was a small family-run company, founded with the aim of building bridges and opening up new paths across literary borders and encouraging dialogue between cultures, as reflected in its name “e/o” – meaning “and/or” but also “East/West” – and in its stork logo, a migratory bird carrying stories around the world. Initially, the publishing house focused on literature from Eastern European countries, introducing Italian readers to authors such as Milan Kundera, Bohumil Hrabal, Christa Wolf and Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Aleksievič. It subsequently turned West, towards American fiction, publishing, among others, Thomas Pynchon, Alice Munro and Joyce Carol Oates, before going on to explore lesser-known literary worlds, from the Caribbean to Africa. Particular attention has also been devoted to French literature, with authors such as Muriel Barbery, Mathias Enard and Éric Vuillard, and to the Mediterranean region, where, through the works of Jean-Claude Izzo and Massimo Carlotto, Edizioni e/o helped establish the “Mediterranean noir” genre in Italy. The publishing house has always paid special attention to women writers, from Christa Wolf and Lia Levi to Elena Ferrante, with her unprecedented worldwide success. In recent years, it has also explored literature from the Middle East to Japan and broadened its horizons to include fantasy and genre fiction, to which the new imprint Ne/oN Libri has been dedicated since 2024.

Inicialmente, la editorial se centró en la literatura de Europa del Este, dando a conocer al público italiano a autores como Milan Kundera, Bohumil Hrabal, Christa Wolf y la premio Nobel Svetlana Aleksievič. Posteriormente, se volcó hacia Occidente, a la ficción estadounidense, publicando, entre otros, a Thomas Pynchon, Alice Munro y Joyce Carol Oates, antes de explorar mundos literarios menos conocidos, desde el Caribe hasta África.
