Lovers rock

by Ferrara, Antonio
Lovers rock

Ugo is thirteen and has two great loves: singing and Laura. Music has always been a part of him, but few support him: at school they don’t understand him, not even at home. His father called it a girly thing and perhaps would have preferred him to be an aspiring soccer player, like many boys his age. But Ugo keeps going. He relies on himself and on a mother who, between the silences of a rotten relationship and the coffees drunk alone, gives him a ukulele. Even the madman on the island believes in Ugo. He’s someone people call “the Cannibal.” A madman who wanders around with a coffin on his shoulders… But at least he understands music, and his code is rock. And so, while he sings by the sea, supported by an eccentric maestro, and the rock of the ’80s begins to flow through his veins… Ugo discovers Laura. Apparently distant and elusive, with headphones always in her ears, beautiful, out of his reach. His friend Rino’s advice doesn’t seem to be the right one to win over someone like her. And Ugo is someone who always does what he wants, in life and in love. Sometimes he waits too long. Other times, however, he knows how to seize the moment. But when a shocking event shakes the island and its inhabitants, Ugo realizes that a relationship also requires courage, the same courage it takes to sing on a big stage.
