Italy at the Warsaw International Book Fair

From 15 to 18 May 2025, the Warsaw International Book Fair is back. After the success of last year’s edition, which saw Italy as Guest of Honour, this year’s programme is once again packed with events for visitors to enjoy at the Palace of Culture and Science, in the adjacent Defilad Square and, for the first time, inside the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.

The Italian pavilionnumber 105 in the Marmurowa Hall of the Palace of Culture and Science – will host a bookshop run by the Polish bookshop Italicus, with a selection of books in Italian and Polish translations, an information point on the Italian publishing sector and activities promoting the Italian language and culture in Poland, and a space for short lessons with Italian language teachers.

The programme of meetings with authors includes:

  • Thursday 15 May, 2.00-3.15 p.m.Auditorium of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw: meeting with Giulio Tremonti, author of the book Guerra o pace (War or Peace), in conversation with Wojciech Przybylski.
  • Friday 16 May, 4.00-4.50 p.m.Goethe Hall, Palace of Culture and Science: meeting with Sebastiano Giorgi, author of the novel Corte Polacca, in conversation with Anna Brysiak and Stanislaw Bardadin.
  • Saturday 17 May:
    • 1:00-1:50 p.m. – Outdoor Stage No. 2: ‘What face does evil have? Does crime literature help or hinder our understanding of the nature of evil?’, conversation with writer Sandrone Dazieri, moderated by Adam Szaja.
    • 2:00-3:15 p.m.Stand no. 138, Palace of Culture and Science: book signing by Sandrone Dazieri at the stand of the publishing house Sonia Draga.
    • 5:00-5:50 p.m.Outdoor Stage no. 1: Dacia Maraini presents her autobiographical story Vita mia, in conversation with Małgorzata Ślarzyńska.
  • Sunday 18 May, 12:00-12:50Outdoor Stage no. 1: ‘Michelangelo’s masterpiece: discovering the Sistine Chapel’, presentation by publishers Scripta Maneant and Manuscriptum, hosted by Bartłomiej Feluś and Artur Sobolewski.

Italian participation is made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Italian Embassy in Warsaw, the Italian Cultural Institute in Warsaw and ICE Agency – Warsaw Office.
