La resa
by Vargas Lorenzo
Through endless identities and configurations, the Hero and the Necromancer are the protagonists and nemeses of every single narrative, eternal entities engaged in a war that has been going on since before the dawn of history. Even archetypes, however, reach a point where they can no longer go on, and when they decide to end it all, they retreat incognito among the unsuspecting humanity they helped to shape. But no matter how hard they try to keep a low profile, their presence is a gravitational force powerful enough to derail the lives of everyone around them. Between a God who is not dead, but merely disinterested, the earthquake-stricken town of Montebasso in central Italy and the socio-economic entropy of New York, Vargas’ novel is the story of how the eternal struggle between Good and Evil risks being nothing more than a tragic misunderstanding. In La resa, ageless pets, assorted monsters and unspeakable powers frame a story that could have been written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett if they had grown up in Italy and mixed their imagination with the deeply human cynicism of Garth Ennis.
