Success for the Chinese showcase created by newitalianbooks at the Shanghai Fair

On 14th November, the Shanghai Children’s Book Fair hosted the presentation of the Chinese showcase dedicated to Italian children’s books, created by newitalianbooks with the support of Treccani and the IIC in Shanghai and in collaboration with the AIE. The event, included in the official programme of the Fair, was attended by numerous Chinese publishers and translators. Speakers included the Consul General of Italy, Tiziana D’Angelo, the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai, Francesco D’Arelli, the Head of the Management Area of Treccani, Marta Leonori, and the heads of the Italian Trade Agency.

The Italian stand, the first in the international section of the Fair, also featured a space dedicated to the “Children’s Italian Books for China” section of newitalianbooks, where visitors to the Fair, particularly the Chinese publishers present, appreciated the showcase, which they were able to explore thanks to two navigable tablets made available and promotional materials with QR codes.

The book files, selected thanks to the appeal launched last spring by newitalianbooks to Italian agents and publishers active in children’s literature, which was joined by over sixty Italian publishers and agents, for a total of about 200 titles, include the cover, a description of the content, awards received, translations already made and contacts for the transfer of rights.

The Chinese showcase of newitalianbooks, aimed at strengthening Italian leadership in a sector that today accounts for about one-third of Italian book rights sales abroad, has benefited from the collaboration of the Italian diplomatic and cultural network in China and, in particular, the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai, which oversaw the translation of all texts into Chinese.
