Giudizio abbreviato

by Cardamone, Walter
Giudizio abbreviato

Giorgio, a forty-year-old judge in a town in Puglia, is appointed to the trial for a brutal murder that has shocked the entire community. The victim was Carlita, a thirteen-year-old girl of Cuban origin, who had a difficult life and was forced into prostitution. Based on testimony and scientific analyses, Paolo, a renowned heart surgeon, is investigated. The prosecution has overwhelming and incontrovertible evidence, and the verdict seems already written. Giorgio initially wants to resign from the position, but hesitantly accepts. What he cannot reveal to anyone is that he was once a friend of Paolo: the two met when they were fourteen on a school trip. Although they never saw each other again, for Giorgio it was a providential meeting; at the time, he was a victim of bullying, and Paolo was the only person his age who helped him. The search for the truth thus begins to intertwine with events from the past, the shadows of the events of the school trip, and unconfessed secrets.
