by Simonelli, Cristina, Zorzi, Selene
Storia delle teologie cristiane. Cronologie. Vol. 1/1: L’ antichità II-IX secolo

The series ‘History of Christian Theologies’ opens with this ambitious and critical exploration of Christian origins and the late antique period (2nd–9th centuries), designed to convey to readers the diversity of theological perspectives and practical contexts in which Christian thought took shape. The contributions alternate between methodological guidelines, thematic reconstructions and specific focuses on authors and linguistic spheres, offering a series of original reading tools. The first part introduces essential interpretative criteria: the power of ritual practices, the influence of contexts, ‘matristics’, and poetic languages. The second part reconstructs central thematic areas – the memory of Jesus, the biblical canon, anthropology, Christology, the Trinity, ecclesiology, monasticism, and hymnology – placing them within their historical context. The third part broadens the horizon to the threshold of the 10th century: from the Carolingian impulse to Christian production in the Arab and Chinese worlds. Original in its approach and the breadth of its sources, the volume prioritises a history that listens to practices – rites, catechesis and art – and to voices often considered marginal. Accessible yet rigorous, designed for those who study, research, reflect on and are interested in the plural genesis of Christian thought, the volume represents the first step in an ‘open’ research project, which aims to re-examine the history of theologies in a truly plural, global and inclusive light.
