On the one thousand three hundredth anniversary of the transport of the relics of the Father of the Church Augustine to Pavia, the Saint’s commemorative Ark – preserved in the Basilica of San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro – is the focus of intense study and cultural fervour. Research moves through time and space in the contributions of nineteen scholars and academics; Pavia’s monument is thus explored in depth from every point of view: from its etymologyto the phenomenon of the ‘great heresies’, from Lombard iconography to the graphic art of northern Europe, from medieval law to the history of literature, passing through the intricate controversies between religious orders, proposals for attribution and chronicles of the journey of Augustinian relics. And for the first time, the complete transcription of the Liber expensarum operum is published.
