Frammenti d’oblio

by Conca, Valeria
Frammenti d’oblio

In March 1929 Berlin still wears its charming golden mask, as dazzling as the cabaret signs, as provocative as the new artistic currents and as modern as the ever-changing society. Amid wild dancing and profligacy, however, lies a very different reality of poverty, violence, social injustice and political uncertainty. Hatred is already crawling through the city streets, but few recognize it and many prefer to ignore it. It is in this world of false appearances that Else Engel, an enterprising reporter moved by idealism, aspires to shine a light on the darkness in order to counter iniquity and falsehood – but she herself is made of shadows and hides behind her mask confused memories of a forgotten past that haunts her and whose pieces she cannot piece together. When her ambition leads her to investigate the murderer who is raising controversy in the city, Else begins to travel a dangerous road where present and past intertwine that will lead her straight to the center of the black hole and into the darkest depths of her mind.
