From Berlin: a film tells the story of Umberto Eco’s library
2 February 2023, 6pm, Italian Cultural Institute Berlin.
The private library of Umberto Eco, philosopher, writer, semiologist and author of The Name of the Rose, who died in 2016, includes more than 30,000 volumes of contemporary titles and 1,500 rare and antique books. Thanks to the collaboration of the family, director Davide Ferrario had access to the library and thus the documentary film was born, which not only describes a fascinating place, but also tries to capture the meaning of the idea of the library as a memory of the world, as Eco himself defined it. In Berlin, Carlo Chatrian and director Davide Ferrario will talk about it together with Umberto Eco’s family members.
