Known in over 50 languages, Italo Calvino is the Italian intellectual of the twentieth century who has had the greatest impact worldwide. Francesca Rubini‘s book Italo Calvino nel mondo. Opere, lingue, paesi (1955-2020) (Carocci editore, 2023) reconstructs the international circulation of his books by analysing their editorial production, placement and fortune in relation to the author’s intellectual biography. The result is an unprecedented approach to a classic of Italian literature, a protagonist of the new millennium, capable of addressing new generations of readers in ever different contexts and codes.

Francesca Rubini is a researcher in contemporary Italian literature at Rome’s Sapienza University. Her studies focus on narrative forms in the second half of the twentieth century. She has published Fausta Cialente. La memoria e il romanzo (Fondazione Arnoldo e Alberto Mondadori, 2019) and essays on Pavese, Calvino, Banti and Bellonci. She is a member of the scientific committee of the Laboratorio Calvino.
Mario Barenghi, full professor of contemporary Italian literature at the University of Milan Bicocca, editor of the Meridiani Mondadori devoted to the work of Italo Calvino and member of the steering committee of the Laboratorio Calvino (Sapienza University of Rome-University of Milan Bicocca-University of Oxford).
