Il libro di Teresa
by Susani, CarolaOne hundred years on from the inauguration of the fascist dictatorship in mid-1924, Carola Susani’s debut novel presents us with an opportunity to reflect on the meanings that totalitarianism took on in people’s lives. First published in 1995, the Bagutta Prize-winning Il libro di Teresa is a well-known story recounted by young narrators. A tale like many others and familiar to petty-bourgeois families of the time, it is both realistic and symbolic, a story of affection but also of injustice and violence, which unravels the contradictions of the past against the backdrop of the sacred.
