Il mistero della contessa Manna
by Lupi, Nicola
It is a summer night when, near the ancient cemetery of the Pieve di Grumone, in the middle of the Cremonese countryside, the body of the young and beautiful Maria Visconti is found, abandoned in a field of alfalfa and trampled by the hooves of a horse.
The local community is shaken by the event, and Marshal Antonio Mancino is assigned to investigate the brutal murder. Making the case even more complex and unsettling is the fact that the body is found in the very place where villagers claim to have seen the ghost of Countess Manna, who in the nineteenth century owned the nearby Villa Manna Roncadelli. Her ghost, tormented by a tragic and mysterious event, is said to appear on moonless nights, wandering near the cemetery in her carriage drawn by four black horses.
The marshal must solve a puzzle that links the present to the past, digging persistently into the dark history shaped by resentment along the banks of the Oglio River.
