Pope Francis’ thought on synodality is “multifaceted” in both style and structure. This critically conducted research theologically argues the need to arrive at certain decisive junctures, pertaining above all the concept of evangelisation. What emerges is the Italian Church’s uneven reception of synodality: the synodal process is still ongoing – more or less under the
radar – in the ancient ecclesial opposition between bishops and students.
The synod on synodality might present an opportunity to reopen the discussion.
