Istituzioni di Diritto dell’Unione europea

After recalling the historical origins and developments of European integration, the volume examines the objectives, values and principles of the European Union, as well as the delimiting principles between the competencies of the Union and those of the member states. Special attention is given to European citizenship. Next, the European institutions, their composition, rules of operation, and powers are dealt with. A subsequent chapter is devoted to interinstitutional procedures, such as the approval of the budget, the adoption of Union acts, and the conclusion of international agreements. The sources of Union law are extensively considered, in which especially the founding Treaties, the general principles developed by the Court of Justice, and the acts of the institutions are examined; of these the general and specific features of regulations, directives, and decisions are described. Ample space is given to the multiple competences of the Court of Justice. The concluding chapter deals with the relationship between Union and Italian law, in the light of the case law of both the Court of Justice and the Italian Constitutional Court. The volume is accompanied by an extensive bibliography, as well as an index of cited case law and an analytical table of contents that facilitates consultation of the text. The volume constantly takes into account the case law of the Court of Justice, which has significantly influenced the definition of the characteristics of Union law and its evolution.
