by da Spinetoli OrtensioAlmost half a century ago, in the immediate post-Council period, one of the most renowned Italian biblical scholars raised an alarm: the Catholic Church, which preaches conversion to the world, must first convert itself. Otherwise, it is doomed to an inexorable shipwreck. After the decades of John Paul II and Benedict XVI, Francis seems to heed that alarm: but what would a Church ‘converted’ to the gospel of Jesus concretely mean? A bold answer is proposed in this masterful writing.

Ortensio da Spinetoli (1925-2015) was a Capuchin friar who taught Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical University Antonianum in Rome, among other places. Despite this, he was frequently invited by Christian and secular communities seeking enlightening guidance.
