L’arte del rinascimento italiano in Cina: lingua, cultura e rese traduttive. Costruzione di un glossario bilingue

This book analyzes the art lexicon of the Italian Renaissance and its reception in China, investigating how terms such as prospettiva (perspective) and disegno crossed seas and centuries, taking on new phonetic and graphic forms. Structured in three parts — historical, theoretical, and practical — it explores the context of cultural contacts between Europe and China from the late Ming dynasty to the present day, the role of Jesuit missionaries such as Matteo Ricci and Giuseppe Castiglione, and the influence of Chinese intellectuals in receiving and reinterpreting Renaissance art. The study combines linguistic analysis with the history of artistic exchanges, highlighting translation strategies and addressing challenges such as the untranslatability of concept-words and the rendering of proper names. The concluding section presents three bilingual glossaries based on the works of Cennino Cennini, Leon Battista Alberti e Giorgio Vasari, providing tools for consulting the Chinese translations of these Italian art terms.
