Maura, l’indovina di Orotelli. Streghe nella Sardegna del ‘700

We are in Orotelli, a town in Sardinia, where we meet Maura, a divinatory woman: an unpublished document and a story that really happened, from the dust of the Archives emerges a judicial and human story that tells us a treasure of beliefs and devotions transmitted for centuries, never written. This story is taken from the Acts of the Tribunal of the Episcopal Inquisition of Alghero, rediscovered by the author, Alessandra Derriu, in her capacity as archivist of the Diocesan Archive. From this document emerges the typical story of a woman who, in the poverty of the villages of central Sardinia in 1700, lived thanks to the alms of the people who had recognized her as a soothsayer and curator.
