Nella tua pelle

by Carminati Chiara
Nella tua pelle

Giovanna, Caterina and Vittorio meet and grow up together in the Institute for Children of War in Portogruaro: they are orphaned but not orphans, separated from their mothers, ignored by their natural fathers and rejected by their putative ones, welcomed by a handful of enlightened religious who try to give them a family. Then their paths diverge: Giovanna is adopted by a wealthy couple from Padua who want her to be a respectable young lady and change her name; Vittorio the adventurous does not hesitate to run away but longs to be captured by someone who loves him for who he is; Caterina does not know but can count on the strength of a bond that holds and guides her, a taut thread, a new possibility. Once again, Chiara Carminati tells stories within History: the events of this novel are inspired by the files and documents kept in an old wooden cupboard of the San Filippo Neri Institute in Portogruaro, a unique place in Europe, where the so-called children of war were taken in. A living matter, painful but above all alive, with adults who were sometimes hostile and sometimes accomplices, who were also victims of events and the spirit of the times.
