Raniero Cantalamessa, a Franciscan Capuchin, graduat- ed in theology and classical literature, worked formerly as a Professor of the History of Christian Origins at the Catholic University of Milan and was a member of the International Theological Commission until 1981. In 1979 he left the academic world to devote himself entirely to preaching in various countries of world, with a strong ec- umenical sensitivity. Since 1980 ha has been the Preacher of the Papal Household.
