Authors, experiences and educational perspectives towards school paths that listen to children. An overview of the alternatives to traditional schooling.
Today’s educational system does not seem to encourage holistic, intuitive and imaginative thinking, but much prefers one based on verbalization. The school climate causes students great stress because of educational pressures and expectations that do not conform to their nature. Schools train mostly knowers, not thinkers. Another school is possible highlights the need to promote reflection within the school in order to ‘see’ children better and better, through the possibility of living educational experiences outside the school building; all this seen not as an escape from a demeaning experience, but as the implementation of educational projects with their own specificity and right of expression. On the basis of a critique of the conventional school, the author Sonia Coluccelli intends to offer a range of alternative proposals, proposing for each one both the theoretical assumptions and the actual realizations. From Rudolf Steiner to Don Lorenzo Milani, from Maria Montessori to Mario Lodi, up to parental education, each chapter examines a pedagogical vision and presents its relative practical translation. In this way, a panorama of possible choices is offered to those who find it difficult to recognize in conventional school systems an adequate response to the real needs of learning, growth and development of each child.
