We often reflect on our friendships, on our literary and philosophical mentors, to rediscover their testimonies and our own history. To understand the roots of our country, we need their words – ‘rediscovered’ in notes, books and conversations. Rereading philosophers such as Heller, writers of the stature of Cristina Campo and Dacia Maraini, alongside the insights of journalists and essayists such as Giuliana Sgrena and Anna Foa, or a politician such as Giglia Tedesco and others, captures emotions and allows us to explore a whole universe; we draw on this to understand the present, the starting point for a future that is not yet determined but which lies before us. Research in literature and philosophy is always founded on the search for new forms, the new, the original – to use a term already coined by Kant. Every dialogue and figure is an immersion, a quest for the land of the soul, imbuing the ground on which new ideals are born with meanings that are sometimes even religious.
