Lucio leaves Crianza, a town between Brindisi and Lecce, on a night train bound for Turin. One constant thought haunts him: he hasn’t passed an engineering exam at university in months. He doesn’t have the courage to tell his parents. He tries to convince himself that he can put the pieces back together, but every time he returns home, he risks putting this daily performance at risk.
Atena is also heading back to Turin for her final year of Architecture. Lucio’s flatmate and friend, she’s on track with her studies and earns excellent grades. As the daughter of Crianza’s mayor, her future is already mapped out: she’ll work at her father’s office. Yet beneath the surface of a life shaped by other people’s expectations, a quiet restlessness is growing. When her parents are subject to intimidation, all that once seemed distant – violence, power, the weight of our choices – becomes impossible to ignore.
Lucio and Atena’s lives unfold in parallel, uncertain and fragile. Together they discover that anger can take unexpected forms. And that succeeding can mean many different things. Andrea Martina writes a tender coming-of-age story about bewilderment and the longing to find one’s own path.
