L’amore è una banana

by Nori, Paolo
L’amore è una banana

A danse that’s almost macabre plays out in an apartment block – or rather, on a single landing. Writers (successful and not), Juventus supporters and police officers cross paths on the stairwell where the compromised writer Bernardo Barigazzi lives, widower of Francesca and father of Daguntaj. A complaint is filed. For what crime? And what punishment? There’s a trail that keeps leading back to the heart – the heart of Bernardo Barigazzi, whose work draws inspiration from the curiosity of living in the world, its everyday mishaps and the sheer variety of its human inhabitants. Despite the stirrings and stumbles of his heart, Barigazzi moves awkwardly among those who wish him harm, and is the target of constant scheming. Fortunately, he can rely on the sharp complicity of his daughter Daguntaj and on writing his unsuccessful novels. The successful ones are published by Elena Renzi, the wife of a minor politician; perhaps they will also be published by the retired Gianni Lamborghini, earning him the title of ‘greatest Bolognese writer of the millennium’. In short, everyone writes, everyone pries, and everyone tries to make a scapegoat of Bernardo Barigazzi. A calamitously magnetic figure, Barigazzi attracts young women, braggarts, and a host of witty and wacky characters from a small-town world that’s alive and kicking.
