The festivalfilosofia for newitalianbooks

For three days, the festivalfilosofia transforms the cities of Modena, Carpi and Sassuolo, setting up open, communal and widespread spaces for learning and conversation. Fifty lectures by leading figures from the Italian and international cultural scene structure each edition around a keyword that refers to fundamental issues in philosophical debate and crucial experiences of the contemporary condition. A wide-ranging creative programme of exhibitions and installations, live performances and concerts, games and workshops, films and philosophical dinners offers access to often surprising themes, highlighting the virtuous connections between forms of reflection and artistic creation. Squares and courtyards, historic centres and monumental sites become places for listening and participation, where residents and visitors can share access to knowledge and situations of intense interaction.

In this selection for newitalianbooks, we have chosen twelve texts by Italian authors who will participate in the 2025 edition of the festivalfilosofia, dedicated to the theme of paideia. The selection reflects the different meanings that our event attributes to the term: not only education in the strict sense, but also the creation of a shared culture (including institutional culture), the forms of transmission of knowledge through space and time, and the all-round personal growth of the individual. The general framework of this edition is that of the autopoiesis of the human being; our belonging, that is, to the paideutic species par excellence, capable of using imitation, play, collaborative networks and the appropriation of tools as fundamental components not only of education, but even more so of evolution.
