Sissi
by Negri, Giada, Tonani, Lorenza
The biography of Sissi illustrated by Giada Negri and wrote by Lorenza Tonani. The story of Empress Sissi was apparently a downward spiral, from a beautiful and admired young sovereign to an unstable, psychologically fragile, sick, restless figure in eternal flight from the world. She loved solitude, considered herself an island, and took every measure to respect this deep desire for self-preservation. Her tragic end by assassination – at the hands of an anarchist determined to strike at the leaders of an aristocracy now in evident decline – finally elevated her to mythical status. She became the beautiful, sad, and unfortunate empress. Sissi was actually gifted with an indomitable character: she rejected the label and the world she had been forced to belong to, in order to give voice to her own spirit and follow her instincts and passions that gave meaning to her life. Opposed to protocol and etiquette, she never found peace, never stopped, traveled tirelessly, always in search of a vitality she felt had been stolen from her.
