Via della Ratta Morta numero 1
by Papini, Arianna
An apartment building in Oltrarno, Florence, is shaken by a mysterious event: Francesca the rat has disappeared. She didn’t eat her kibble, she didn’t chew on encyclopaedias, she didn’t scare the nurse or the carer, she didn’t fall off the balcony: Mrs Lina is sure that something terrible has happened to her. And while she is in despair, some strange events occur in the apartment building: the lift is stuck, there are suspicious screams, red traces left here and there. Could it be blood? In a compelling mystery novel, which takes place over the course of a day – so indelible that it gives its name to a street – and in a time that, like childhood, expands and contracts following a rhythm unrelated to science, the stories of the residents intertwine, revealing caricatures and stereotypes, complex and comical relationships, small obsessions, phobias, loves and differences.
