L’alzheimer, i cavalli, la poesia. Un memoir
by Bertoni, Alberto
All the poetry of Alberto Bertoni is encapsulated in his delicate, poignant and ironic prose, which recounts the illness of his father, Gilberto. Alzheimer’s, which erases the memories of the person it inhabits, creates a welcoming space for the memories of those who stand by the sufferer. And from memory-to-memory flow, across the long span of the author’s early passion for poetry, horse racing and Inter Football Club, family life and his formative years, the paths of words and languages, the masters of literature and those of life – or both. Episodes of personal stories that intertwine with the great cultural movements and changes of a generation torn between everyday life and upheaval. Through Modena, “a room of everyday life”, the Bologna of studies and bombs, and an overseas world already on the threshold of the technological revolution, Bertoni’s memoir is a continuous dance on the edge of immanence.
