A pelo d’acqua

by Romano Livio
A pelo d’acqua

Vasilio Navarra, a 48-year-old teacher and writer, has a natural talent for getting into trouble. After the separation, he is divided between the enticements of online meetings and the desire to build a new stable relationship. Having obtained a sabbatical year, Vasilio has the firm intention of dedicating himself only to the novel of his life. But when his wife moves away for work, his beloved teenage children come back to live with him and every plan is swept away by the need to take care of them. To complicate matters, the mysterious neighbor Thom Karremans, a Dutch colonel who stepped aside in Srebrenica allowing the extermination of ten thousand Bosnians, suddenly falls into the professor’s life. In a short time Vasilio becomes Thom’s confidant but also the object of Mrs. Karremans’ desire, events that at first make him play the game until he finds himself the main suspect in a murder that leads straight to the soldier’s villa. A pelo d’acqua is a light-hearted, compelling and irreverent novel about the ability to learn from one\’s mistakes to leave infinite youth behind, or to be able to continue to make mistakes better.
