Farsi male. Variazioni sul masochismo

by Lingiardi, Vittorio
Farsi male. Variazioni sul masochismo

We all get hurt from time to time, but we can learn to distinguish between the suffering that befalls us from behind and that to which we, more or less consciously, subject ourselves. Vittorio Lingiardi charts a vast and obscure territory: he traces the history of our pain and draws a line between coexistence and complicity. ‘Masochist’ is a disturbing adjective, but here we are not talking about whips and handcuffs: the focus is on personality and relationships. Lingiardi takes us into inner rooms, furnished with the sharp edges of self-criticism, the inaccessible shelves of the ego ideal, the safes of the inner saboteur, and the endless cycles of guilt. A tale of everyday life, concluding with a reflection on political masochism and the pain of the world. Pages written with the language of psychoanalysis, poetry and cinema.
