La scatola magica
Nel villaggio è arrivato un personaggio molto inquietante. È un pifferaio, viene dalla lontanissima Hamelin, e porta con sé una scatola nera, che mostra al Borgomastro promettendogli che ne regalerà una a ogni bambino…
La scatola nera è magica, in grado di soddisfare quasi ogni desiderio e, nello stesso tempo, malefica, perché i bambini del paese ne rimangono prigionieri. La favola racconta, attraverso questa metafora, il dramma della dipendenza dalle nuove tecnologie e dallo smartphone in particolare, con la speranza che questo possa aiutare prima di tutto a prendere consapevolezza del problema e poi a cercare soluzioni alternative che non passino attraverso punizioni e proibizioni.
Genitori, insegnanti e psicologi possono partire dalla lettura di questa storia per discutere con i figli, gli allievi e i piccoli pazienti dei motivi che portano a rimanere prigionieri di una “scatola magica” e delle sofferenze che ciò può produrre.
Il racconto mostra come salvarsi da tutto questo possa essere molto difficile, come i modi per venirne fuori possano essere spesso sbagliati e dolorosi, ma lascia aperta la porta alla speranza: “Andarono a cercare la maestra Evelina. Tutti ricordavano la sua voce dolce e i suoi modi gentili. Non aveva mai urlato contro un bambino” … “Il maestro Pietro prese un libro e cominciò a leggerlo. Quando si accorse che tutti lo ascoltavano con attenzione, curiosi di sapere come sarebbe finita la storia, chiuse il libro”.
Fabio Celi è psicologo psicoterapeuta e autore di oltre cento pubblicazioni nel campo della psicologia, della psicopatologia e della psicoterapia in età evolutiva. Insegna presso le Università di Pisa, Padova, San Marino e Modena e Reggio Emilia.
The Magic Box
A very unsettling character has arrived in the village. He is a piper, from the faraway town of Hamelin, and he carries with him a black box, which he shows to the Mayor, promising to give one to every child…
The black box is magical, capable of fulfilling almost any desire—and at the same time, malevolent, because the children of the village become prisoners of it. Through this metaphor, the tale narrates the drama of addiction to new technologies, particularly smartphones, with the hope that it may first foster awareness of the problem and then encourage the search for alternative solutions that do not rely on punishments or prohibitions.
Parents, teachers, and psychologists can use this story as a starting point for discussions with their children, students, and young patients about the reasons why one may become trapped in a « magic box » and the suffering this can cause.
The story illustrates how escaping from this trap can be very difficult, how the paths out are often painful or misguided—but it also leaves the door open to hope: “They went to find Miss Evelina. Everyone remembered her sweet voice and her gentle ways. She had never once shouted at a child…” … “Mr. Pietro picked up a book and began to read. When he noticed that everyone was listening attentively, curious to know how the story would end, he closed the book.”
Fabio Celi is a psychologist and psychotherapist, and author of over one hundred publications in the fields of psychology, psychopathology, and psychotherapy in childhood and adolescence. He teaches at the Universities of Pisa, Padua, San Marino, and Modena and Reggio Emilia.
