Frieda von Bulow. Dal romanzo coloniale alla scrittura femminile

The literary production of Frieda von Bülow, a German writer who lived between 1857 and 1909, offers a social and cultural cross-section of Germany in an era of profound changes, casting an eye on the female and imperialist perspective of the late nineteenth century. In the texts, the evolution of the newborn German nation is observed through the eyes of a woman capable of critically evaluating choices, actions and ideas and who is not afraid to expose her positions in this regard.

Francesca Ottavio is a contract professor of German literature at the University of Calabria, where she obtained a PhD in 2019. Her studies focus on colonial Germany starting from the works of Frieda von Bülow.
