Gatti neri e specchi rotti. Perché siamo superstiziosi
by Moro, Elisabetta, Niola, Marino
Black cats, broken mirrors, unlucky days, lucky numbers, infallible amulets, indispensable talismans, rituals to ward off bad luck. These are just a few examples from the endless catalogue of superstitions to which we have turned since the dawn of time to ward off life’s risks and the uncertainties of existence. For, despite advances in knowledge, literacy and technology, the world of superstition shows no sign of waning; on the contrary, it continues to multiply its symbols. Because clearly these are not a pre-logical remnant of thought but a need for further explanation, the illusion of controlling the uncontrollable.
