Marco Covacich in Vienna
On 5 June 2024 at 7 pm Mauro Covacich will present his book Trieste sottosopra. Quindici passeggiate nella città del vento, Bari, Laterza, 2006 (German translation: Triest verkehrt. Fünfzehn Spaziergänge in der Stadt des Windes, Verlag Klaus Wagenbach).
“Alongside the Austro-Hungarian Trieste, there was always another Trieste. Alongside the city of literary cafés, the friendship between Svevo and Joyce, there was always another city, soft, informal, mischievous, playful in nature. The inhabitants of Trieste are characterised by an archaic, moral hedonism, a modern joie de vivre, easy-going, Californian-style. Trieste is a southern city, the southernmost in northern Europe.”
In his book Triest verkehrt. Fifteen Walks in the City of Wind, Mauro Covacich explains the emotional puzzle of a city full of history, oddities and contradictions, and puts it back together again.
The presentation of the book and its German translation will take place at the List bookshop – Triest verkehrt. Fünfzehn Spaziergänge in der Stadt des Windes – organised by the cultural association Libellula. Italian Culture in Vienna, the Italian Cultural Institute and Triestebookfest.
The presentation will be held in Italian and German in the presence of the author.
Admission is free. Registration required at info@libellulavienna.at.
