I ragazzi che scalarono il futuro
by Gazzarri, MaurizioPisa, 1954: the farsightedness of the local authorities, the intelligence of the University,
the vision of the Olivetti family and the commitment of young graduates, scholars, students and technicians helped to overcome one of the greatest challenges of the
20th century: the construction of the CEP (Calcolatrice Elettronica Pisana – the Pisan
Electronic Calculator) and the ELEA (Elaboratore Elettronico Aritmetico – Electro-Aritmetic Processor), the first computers designed and built in Italy.
The events in Piazza Torricelli, the headquarters of the Physics Institute, and in Barbaricina, where the Electronics Research Laboratory of the Ivrea company was set up, are interwoven with the major social, cultural, political and social events of Pisa and Italy in the second half of the 1950s. The world was changing and Pisa was part of it.
