Il corpo e l’alleanza. I doni di Gesù nell’ultima cena

by Manicardi, Ermenegildo
Il corpo e l’alleanza. I doni di Gesù nell’ultima cena

Five accounts of the same event, five witnesses recounting Jesus’s most sacred act during the Last Supper: breaking bread, pouring wine, and offering them to the disciples. The Apostle Paul, John and the three Synoptic Gospels provide similar descriptions, yet these contain numerous variations that have been the focus of decades of study and interpretation. What is the relationship between the gesture and the words? Are breaking bread and pouring wine two actions with a single purpose, or do the two gifts call for a different understanding of how to receive them? In a veritable ‘New Testament dossier’, Ermenegildo Manicardi reconstructs the scene and offers his interpretation with the patience of a skilled biblical scholar and the depth of vision of a theologian.
