La bestia di Waltanna
by Cinquetti, Nicola
It seems that a huge beast has been sighted more than once in the Waltanna marshes, a creature capable of rising from the waters and killing. There is talk of horses torn to pieces and stripped to the bone. There is no proof and no certainty, but rumors spread quickly and draw crowds of thrill-seekers and adventurers. Among those who set out on the road are two brothers, Jonathan and George. Jonathan, who writes for a newspaper, must travel to Melvern, a village on the edge of the swamps, to interview an old poet. George, his thirteen-year-old brother, has decided to go with him, driven by the desire to see firsthand the places where the mysterious sightings occurred—or perhaps by a deeper pull.
But it is easy to get lost in the maze of the marshes, especially at night, and especially when you end up alone. And the ight’s pit darkness, as we know, brings monsters back to the surface… even the ones we stored within us.
A thrilling read for young adults exploring past trauma, poetry and brotherhood.
