To Martina’s Alzheimer-affected grandma, words are now like butterflies: whenever she is about to tell, she forgets them and they fly away.

Her house is full everywhere of coloured cards looking like butterflies too, where she writes what cannot be missed.

One day, Martina writes “I love you” on a blue card. However… can love fly away too?

“Grandma and butterfly-like words” is about the special relationship often built between grandparents and grandchildren. A relationship with just a few words, because a gaze, a gesture, being together are meaningful and enough to all.

Discussing a painful and relevant subject like important deseases with a light and simple touch makes this story great and understandable from children too.

Francesca Mascheroni, after her master’s degree in Literature and Social Communication at the Cattolica University in Milan, has been a journalist since 1991. As a writer for children, she has won several prizes for her books. She taught “Creative writing” at the Scuola del Fumetto in Milan, and holds reading & writing courses in schools and libraries.
