Magdalena Valdez’s long journey begins in Carmona, India, in the late 1980s. As a result of an event that will mark her life, little Maggie embarks on a journey that will make her to wander first in the Soviet Union, then in the Rome of the Second Republic, to finally take refuge in the post-Basaglian Trieste.In every place the protagonist changes her identity: in Russia she is Lena, who learns to manage her own independence; in Rome she is Maddalè, who experiences the joy and frustration of stability; in Trieste she is the mad Mad, who discovers her own truth. A woman who changes and evolves at each stage, up to risk losing herself, only to find herself once she has come to terms with the past.


Joana Karda is the first collective in Italy of female mestizo writing. It was born in 2012 in Bologna, as an open and experimental project, looking for an innovative style that can merge thoughts and contaminate languages.
