Life. La mia storia nella Storia
by Francesco (Jorge Mario Bergoglio) , Marchese Ragona FabioFor the first time Pope Francis tells the story of his life through the events that have marked humanity: from the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, when the future Pontiff was almost three years old, up to the present day. Intertwining his personal memories with collective events, Pope Francis tells his story, and at the same time offers his perspective on the epochal events that have marked contemporary history in the last two centuries. In each chapter the Pontiff, starting from a key event, for the first time opens the treasure chest of his memories and shares his message about many topics that are more relevant today than ever.LIFE is an extraordinary journey over the decades, that retrace the most significant moments of our times, through the memories of the Pope. Among these: the fall of the Berlin Wall, Videla’s coup in Argentina, the moon landing in 1969 and the world cup 1986 where Maradona scored the goal that went down in history as “La mano de Dios”. The memoirs of a shepherd who, from his very personal point of view, narrates the years of the Nazi extermination of the Jews, of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the great economic recession of 2008, the collapse of the Twin Towers, the pandemic, Benedetto XVI’s resignation and the conclave that elected him Pope with the name of Francis. Events which are intertwined with the life of the “papa callejero” who, exceptionally, reopens the treasure chest of his memories to tell, with his typical frankness, those moments that changed the world. At the same time, Pope Francis launches important messages on the most important current topics: social inequalities, the climate crisis, war, atomic weapons, racial discrimination…The Pope’s voice alternates with that of the narrator, the Vatican correspondent Fabio Marchese Ragona, who, in each chapter, describes the historical context in which events take place, to then leave the space for the very personal story of the Pontiff.
