Tommaso Soldini was born in Lugano the 21st of September 1976. He studied in Lugano and Lucerne; he graduated in literature at the Freiburg University and then spent a year in New York, where he took part, in 2003, right before the Iraq war, in the biggest pacifist demonstration in our history.

Since 2004, he teaches Italian language in the Canton School of Bellinzona and has published several books of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. The Hopeless is his second novel.
