Maometto. La vita e il messaggio di Muhammad il profeta dell’Islam

Muhammad’s biography is essential to understand Islam, that is the combination of two principles: the uniqueness of God and the authenticity of the mission of his Envoy. This volume – different from others in Euro-American historiography – offer an analysis from within, which takes into consideration the idea that Muslims have of their sacred history.

First of all this book compares the biographies on the Prophet circulating in the West, overcoming the old Oriental Studies and updating the new one.  Then, it aims to outline a well-rounded profile of the founder of Islam: a man with an intriguing and multifaceted personality. A mystic and a preacher, of course, but also a politician and a leader.

The author has direct access to Arabic sources, from the Koran to the medieval and contemporary biographies.

The final chapter is dedicated to the political succession of Muhammad, a troubled era, from which will arise Sunnism and Shi’ism, the two greatest ramifications of Islam.
