A touching story inspired by the author’s childhood. Lisa, who fled to England with her parents following the racial laws, receives from her grandparents a splendid dollhouse that belonged to her mother. The house becomes an activity to be shared with other refugee children in London and the symbol of a childhood violated by discrimination. This memory emerges when an elderly Lisa meets thirteen-year-old Margherita, disoriented by her parents’ separation. Margherita rebuilds the old dollhouse with Lisa, stimulating Lisa to recall her dramatic childhood and leading Margherita and Tobias to acquire a new maturity and awareness of themselves and of the world.

Anna Sarfatti was born and lives in Florence, where she taught in primary and childhood schools. She is engaged in the search for paths and tools to promote the culture of rights and active citizenship among children.
