Ombre russe

by Pardini Paolo
Ombre russe

The eyes of Julia, a communist militant who does not want to surrender to the collapse of the Soviet Union, suddenly materialize in the rubble of the government building of Transnistria, just bombed, and mark the fate of an Italian journalist sent there to tell a forgotten conflict. The overwhelming love story, which we have all dreamed of living, runs within the conflict between peoples that only the forced Soviet glue had managed, for fifty years, to contain within the meshes of coexistence. A small War and Peace of the end of the millennium where emotions fill every page and keep you glued to the novel until the last line. Russian Shadows is set in 1992, during the hostilities between Moldova and the self-proclaimed Russian-speaking republic of Transnistria, which remained loyal to Moscow: two regions, on the borders of Ukraine, considered possible targets for the expansionist aims of the new Tsar. The places of the novel are the same as those of the war unleashed by Putin, on February 24, 2022, just as the underlying malaise thirty years later is identical: the unresolved question of Russian pride wounded on December 8, 1991, when the The Soviet Union dissolved and the red flag over the Kremlin was lowered.
