Poveri a noi
by Carrieri, Elvio
In the courtyard of a junior high school on the outskirts of Bari, a student is beaten up by a classmate and hospitalised in serious condition. A few metres away, another boy watches the scene helplessly. Almost twenty years pass. In the meantime, after that tragic moment, Plinio (the victim) and Libero (the uninvolved witness to the beating) have become friends. A friendship based on mutual protection. But when Libero, a prison teacher, meets Letizia, a psychologist from the Itria Valley, his relationship with Plinio changes. Against the backdrop of a city, Bari, now cynically reduced to its skeletal, post-industrial soul, tormented by local scandals and shady political manoeuvres, there is no drama that the three young urban figures cannot exorcise. No matter how much pain is involved. Winner of the Giorgione Giovani 2025 award.
