Scelgo di non odiare

In 2021, Pier Luigi Maccalli recounted the harrowing experience of his kidnapping in Niger in the book Catene di libertà. In 2024, with Liberate la pace, he shared the gifts he received from that experience, which left a deep mark on him and changed him profoundly, yet at the same time enabled him to embark on a journey of liberation which, guided by forgiveness, led him towards a new light. In Scelgo di non odiare (I Choose Not to Hate), the author responds to the warmongering mentality prevalent today, which mainly champions rearmament and just war, and offers his own alternative perspective. There is a forgotten essential for building peace, so ancient yet ever new, that challenges us. Maccalli does not hesitate to reject hatred and to revive the practice of non-violence because he is already a witness to that choice; he has shown the world that by renouncing violence, even the most difficult challenge can be overcome: looking the enemy in the eye and recognizing their humanity.
