Sulla mia terra. Storie di israeliani e palestinesi

by Mannocchi, Francesca
Sulla mia terra. Storie di israeliani e palestinesi

When it seems like there’s nothing more to be done—after a date, October 7th, which has become a dividing line toward darker times—Francesca Mannocchi tries to rewind time through stories. Walking through the kibbutzim destroyed by Hamas, sitting on a stone in the Jordan Valley, listening to the lives and reasons of others. Above all, she gives voice to the testimonies of those who, on the same land, live but have been without peace for decades.
A year after October 7th, starting with a chronology that goes back to the origins of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and deepening the key concepts, the author provides the coordinates to navigate one of the most complex scenarios. She attempts to piece together an extremely difficult puzzle, through multiple voices, always staying away from judgment.
Beyond the boundaries drawn by maps and checkpoints, between the city of Hebron, the Jenin refugee camp, and the settlers’ outposts in the West Bank, she gathers words of pain and fear, but also of dreams and hopes, sown daily on a harsh terrain of injustice, yet also of tenacious, though minority, attempts to trust others.
Instead of providing answers, each encounter in this journey raises questions: what does it mean to belong to a place? How can you get to know your neighbor and stop hating them? In the end, one belief remains: that questioning the world, and being willing to embrace it in its diversity, is the first step to changing it.
